Carter G. Woodson was a scholar whose dedication to celebrating the historic contributions of Black people led to the establishment of Black History Month, marked every February since 1976. Woodson fervently believed that Black people should be proud of their heritage and all Americans should understand the largely overlooked achievements of Black Americans.

Mary Ritter Beard was an American historian, author, women’s suffrage activist, and women’s history archivist who was also a lifelong advocate of social justice. As a Progressive Era reformer, Beard was active in both the labor and women’s rights movements.

Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) was an Arab sociologist, philosopher, and historian widely acknowledged to be one of the greatest social scientists of the Middle Ages, who made major contributions in the areas of historiography, sociology, economics, and demography.
