John Agard (born 21 June 1949 in British Guiana) is a Guyanese playwright, poet and children’s writer, now living in Britain. In 2012, he was selected for the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry.He was awarded Book Trust’s Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2021.

On the 22nd June 2022, it was the 74th anniversary of Windrush Day.

Windrush Day is a special day to remember the first generation of people from the Caribbean, who came over to the UK by invitation to help rebuild Britain after World War Two. It marks the anniversary of the arrival of MV Empire Windrush at the Port of Tilbury, near London, on 22 June 1948.

Next year, all children in Oak Class will study a unit of work for history all about The Windrush.
