This half term we have been exploring the following genres: reggae, calypso, dubstep and ska.

Reggae music originated in the Caribbean and has Jamaican roots. One of the most famous reggae artists is Bob Marley.

Calypso began in the nation of Trinidad and Tobago. It is a close relative of West African Kaiso music.

We learnt about a musical genre called CHUTNEY. Chutney music is a fusion genre of Indian folk music, specifically Bhojpuri folk music, with local Caribbean calypso and soca music, and later on Bollywood music. This genre of music that developed in Trinidad and Tobago is popular in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Jamaica, other parts of the Caribbean, Fiji, Mauritius, and South Africa.
