Sycamore class worked with Ms. Levison thinking about what it means to be different on the outside but the same on the inside.
We thought about what these words mean when we look at our skin. The children used magnifying glasses to really look carefully at the different shades of their skin.
Some thoughts from the pupils
‘We are different colours, you have white skin, I have darker skin.’
‘Are black and brown the same?’
We used the words ‘unique’ and ‘special’ to explain that differences are important, they show we are all individuals.
The pupils talked about when others had used unkind and thoughtless words towards them. They thought hard about what they could say and how they could remind others that they are unique and proud of themselves.
‘We are the same but also different’.
