PASTORAL CARE
The school recognises its responsibility for the pastoral welfare of all pupils. A pupil’s academic performance can sometimes be affected by anxieties or problems which have arisen in other areas of his/her life. It is important, therefore, that the school and home share any concerns which they may have. Parents are invited to approach the school on these matters in complete confidence.
Sometimes experiences within school show themselves in the child’s attitude or behaviour at home. Once again the best interests of the child are served by parents contacting the school immediately. Every attempt will be made by the school to trace the source of the problem and to remedy it.
DISCIPLINE
Living with other members of the school community means that each child must consider the effect of their behaviour upon others within the school. Shared and consistent expectations and standards of behaviour are essential to developing a community where each member feels safe, secure and happy. Throughout all aspects of school life staff will encourage all pupils to:
- develop a sense of responsibility for themselves, their fellow pupils and the school community
- develop respect for those around them, their books, equipment and fabric of the school
- understand by teaching and example that genuine care for others is at the heart of good relationships
- understand the importance of truth, honesty and integrity
- recognise the importance of respecting school rules
- recognise that failure to comply with the school rules will bring reasonable sanctions.
The school will seek to demonstrate its conviction that praise and rewards are the most effective means of encouraging hard work and acceptable behaviour.
CODE OF CONDUCT
All pupils are expected to follow our School Code of Conduct – The Golden Rules which are displayed in each classroom.
- Sharing – thoughts, understanding, time and equipment
- Caring – showing, through our actions that we care
- Listening – listening actively to those around us
- Respect – for ourselves, each other and the school. Telling the truth and having integrity
- Calm – to take time to respond calmly, even when we are feeling anxious and worried
- Behave – we know in our hearts if we are behaving well
KEY VALUES
Being a values based school allows us to explore Christian based values through practical activity, collective worship, school and community work.
Although we see these values as Christian values, we strongly feel that they are values all children need to learn about and develop in order to become productive, successful and caring members of society.
We seek to make links between our value and real events where possible in order to contextualise the children’s understanding.
